Overview
The Victim Assistance Service is the oldest Prosecutor based program in the State of Ohio with staff reaching out to help over 10,000 crime victims a year. It is designed to assist crime victims in understanding their Rights and to lessen the effects of any trauma encountered as the result of a crime. The Stark County Prosecuting Attorney's Office utilizes highly trained victim advocates and volunteers to provide on-site support to victims in the Alliance, Canton and Massillon Municipal Courts, Juvenile Court and the Court of Common Pleas. Other services include:
- Assisting victims with completing Victim Impact Statements
- Notifying victims of case status and court hearing dates
- Providing victims with Victim of Crime Reparations application forms and assisting
- Providing special programming for child abuse victims
- Providing special programming for victims of domestic violence
- Providing services for those requesting interpreters or special needs assistance for court hearings
- Providing victims with information on registration with VINE (Victim Information & Notification Everyday)
- Assist eligible victims to apply to the Safe at Home program with the Ohio Secretary of State
- Provide Referrals for community resources
- Provide court support (accompaniment)
