2026 Voter Registration Deadlines
You must register or update your voter registration no later than 30 days prior to an election. Upcoming voter registration deadlines:
- April 6, 2026 for the May 5, 2026 Primary and Special Election
- July 6, 2026 for the August 4, 2026 Special Election
- October 5, 2026 for the November 3, 2026 General Election
If you register or update your information after the deadline, the change will apply for the next election.
Qualifications to Register and Vote
You are qualified to register and vote in Ohio if you meet all of the following:

You are a U.S. citizen.

You have been an Ohio resident for at least 30 days immediately before the election.

You are 18 years old on or before the next general election.

If you are 17, you may vote in a primary election if you will be 18 by the general election, but you cannot vote on issues or party central committees.

You are not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction under state or federal law.

You have not been permanently disqualified from voting for election-law violations.

You have not been declared incompetent to vote by a probate court.
Once registered, you become eligible to vote in elections held in your precinct after 30 days. During that period, you may also vote early in person or by mail using an absentee ballot.
If you are unable to locate your voter registration information but think you are registered to vote and you have not moved outside of your county of prior registration, you may be eligible to cast a provisional ballot during in-person absentee voting period at an appropriate early voting location or the county board of elections, or on Election Day at the correct polling place for your current address that may be counted.
