Warning Sirens
Many Stark County Communities have Outdoor Warning Sirens. There are 52 sirens around the county. The outdoor warning sirens alert residents who are outside with tones, these are not meant for indoor warnings.
Outdoor Siren FAQs
- Sirens are generally tested on the first Monday or Wednesday of each month at 12:00 PM, (some communities may vary), unless there is severe weather expectSirened in the area.
- Sirens in Stark County are activated by local jurisdictions, based on alerts from the National Weather Service. Stark County does not own or operate any sirens.
- Sirens are primarily activated for the following reasons: a tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Services, a tornado or funnel cloud is reported by a trained spotter.
Other Ways to Get Warnings
Weather Alert Radios: For indoor alerts, homes should have a NOAA Weather Radio. NOAA Weather radios are like smoke detectors for severe weather, and it can wake you up when a warning is issued in the middle of the night.
Weather Apps: There are many different cell phone apps that can be used to get weather alerts on your mobile device. Some of these are:
