The Stark County Health Department is the recipient of a Child Injury Prevention Grant from the Ohio Department of Health. This grant focuses on implementing evidenced based programs, as well as policy, system and environmental changes in the areas of child passenger safety and adverse childhood experiences. Current programs are highlighted below.
Car Seat Basics
Staff work with community agencies and organizations to have staff trained in a child passenger safety program. Car Seat Basics is a free e-learning course that takes about 60 minutes to complete. Learn to keep children safe in cars as they grow by completing all or specific modules on rear-facing and forward-facing car seat use, as well as booster seat and seat belt use. Partners may include law enforcement, fire department, social service agencies, health care organizations, child care centers and others. 
Booster Seat Evaluation
Staff work with community agencies and organizations to implement car seats checks to ensure families are educated on proper ways to install their child’s booster seats. Partners may include law enforcement, fire department, social service agencies, health care organizations, child care centers and others. Ruling Our eXperiences (ROX)
Staff work directly with school districts to support the implementation of the ROX program. ROX is a 20-week evidence-based program in schools for girls in grades 5-12. ROX supports the adult influencers in girls’ lives, providing training and professional development, as well as practical tools and support for everyday use. The program focuses on areas of confidence, relationships, self-esteem, and even teach self-defense.
